Targeting senior-level transit maintenance professionals, the workshop curriculum will support the development of leadership skills, explore strategic maintenance planning, facilitate the sharing of best practices, and build a network of transit maintenance professionals.

Two previous workshops were held in Dallas, TX and Louisville, KY. They were attended by maintenance leaders representing transit agencies across the country. Those who attended the workshop found it to be a unique learning experience that allowed them the opportunity to connect with other maintenance professionals:

"Wow!  Finally a relevant workshop designed for Senior Transit Maintenance Managers.  I would recommend this workshop to any transit maintenance manager or maintenance contractor.  Great lessons learned from the subject matter experts as well as from workshop participants.  This workshop also provided me with a network of colleagues that I can reach out to for help or resource."
Rolando Cordero, Director of Maintenance and Vehicle Technology, Foothill Transit

"From a Director of Maintenance perspective, the Transit Maintenance Leadership Workshop was a great way to share industry best practices along with providing time to network to expand resources for tackling industry wide issues."

-Dave Michels, Director of Shop Support Services, WMATA

"Very informative, good, useful information to improve my interaction with operations, finance, and other aspects of our organization. Great presenters, really came across as being knowledgeable in their respective areas."
- Ed Yorek, Director of Maintenance, St. Cloud Metro Bus

TheTransit Maintenance Leadership workshop was developed by NTI in partnership with GannonConsult, and supported by the Federal Transit Administration. The workshop is directed by GannonConsult's Dr. Barbara Gannon, with instructional support from Raymond Melleady (USSC Group), Rolando Cruz (Santa Monica Big Blue Bus), Paul Larrousse (NTI), Lindsey Robertson (APTA), and other industry leaders.

2017 National RTAP Technical Assistance Program

National RTAP announces the 2017 Technical Assistance Program, with a focus this year on marketing and communications. Using our  Marketing Toolkit, web tools like  Website Builder and  GTFS Builder, and other resources, we are interested in working with you to improve your marketing, communications, and/or community outreach.

National RTAP is looking to select two small rural or tribal transit providers to receive technical assistance in 2017.  We anticipate that each project will involve, at a minimum, developing or updating the agency's marketing plan and an assessment of the system's visibility, image, and passenger experience.  We will use the Marketing Toolkit Worksheets as a starting point.

The application requires you to state your marketing or communications goals and project objectives. Examples of goals include increasing ridership and visibility, improving rider information and outreach, or enhancing your image.  Examples of objectives include developing a website, getting your route data into a trip planning program (e.g. Google Transit), creating marketing materials, surveying your community and riders, advertising, or targeted outreach to stakeholders.

Applications are due by Friday, March 17, 2017 at 12:00 PM ET.  The projects will kick off in April and will be completed by the end of September 2017.  To learn more about the program, the application requirements, and to submit your application, go to the 2017 Technical Assistance Program webpage.
