It was announcedJan. 23 that the Faulkner County Senior Citizens Center’s transportationprogram was in jeopardy unless $45,000 could be found before the end ofFebruary. Just five days later, the center’s executive director, DebraRobinson, announced that the community had responded with contributions from 30donors. Thisprogram that provides essential trips for about 500 elderly Conway residentswould be saved. Juanita Nutt, said the center’s “bus” is her lifeline. Shemakes 3-4 trips to doctors’ appointments a week, driven by a Senior Citizensvehicle and driver.“I live in a one-bedroom apartment and this (the center onDonaghey) is really my home. I would be very sad if I couldn’t come here,” shesaid.“Most people don’t know how our program affects not only the person beingdriven to the doctor’s office but also their children and grandchildren,”Robinson said. “Sometimes, all it takes is a little bit of help to keep someoneliving independently. It might be a meal delivered to their home, a ride to thedoctor’s office or a visit with their friends at the center where they come forfun.” A donation of $20,000 from the JohnHawks Family Foundation helped save the Center’s medical transportationprogram.
